What do you do first? I've never had a gun stolen but I was thinking about who I should notify first? I figure local law enforcement then renter's insurance company? That just doesn't seem like enough to me. Anybody know exactly what to do? Thanks, Earl

I would think the police first.

Call the police and file a report. Hopefully you have the serial # so that it can be listed as stolen in NCIC (National Registry). Whenever police stop someone with guns in the vehicle, they will run them to see if they are stolen. Also, pawn shops turn in monthly reports of their guns and if you have a serial number you may be able to recover it this way.

If you haven't, the FIRST thing you need to do is get an extra "carrier" or however they say it which covers your firearms, because without it, from a replacement value, or any value for that matter, standpoint you are out of luck.

Law enforcement first, with all info(s/n, markings, etc)

I would check to see what your coverage actually is, homeowners ins. only covers @ $1000-$1200 on firearms and jewelry.

My renters policy did NOT cover firearms. The rider policies are very expensive for the coverage you get.

I took the time to photograph all my guns (left & rt sides, s/n, etc) then made a list and locked it in my security safe, copies to close friend or relative.
