I have a Tuffline flipdisc and have been reasonably satisfied with it, just a lot of work to transport to multiple small foodplots. Can anyone recommend the best non-flip disc out there?

Thanks. I've had good luck with it assuming the ground has some moisture, I also have a weight attachment that helps it get down and break up the soil. The only problem is the extra work flipping it over every time you need to move, probably should have gotten the adjustable Tuffline model.

chaneylake,
Did that method work well for you? I too have no access to equipment. I did several small 100x50 plots but used an old Massy Ferguson tiller. I think my arms and shoulders will never recover!

Chaneylake,

Do you mean apply roundup and broadcast or actually drill seed? I don't have access to a seed drill but I can broadcast. I have had reasonable results with the disc and broadcast method but have not tried broadcasting over untilled soil w/ roundup.

Thanks

we have had decent luck with roundup burndown
waiting about 10 days
applying seed and immediately mowing or weed eater
the dead grass will help cover seed and hold moisture
works great if you get lucky and get a good rain shortly after
seeding and mowing/weed eating vegitation

the roundup burndown and mowing/weed eater works real good with all small seed kinda hard with corn, peas etc unless can keep moist also helps some to drag a piece of chain link fence over area after seed application and mowing/weed eater

keep you a journal on the above as to date done, type seed, and any other things that you do to your food plots. as a little time goes by your data will be priceless. always remember that moisture is more frequent in the spring, take advantage of it

Thanks, I will definitely try that this spring. I've always just disced without using any chemicals other than lime/fert, A sprayer is a lot easier to run than that little flipdisc.
