It is difficult to leave a .260 at home if deer are on the menu or most anything else for that matter.

I killed a mature doe with my .260 Ruger boat paddle yesterday morning. It was a bad shot, ruined a ham, but the 129 Hornady shattered the femur and resulted in a long massive blood trail where I found her dead in a pool of bloody water in a dry limestone creek bed.

The .260 is such a nice user friendly round. I like the 129g Hornadys as they are cheap(relatively) and work so well. I also have some Nosler parts. which I have never used and some 90g TNTs for coyotes and such. I have some roundnose 160s on hand in case a rogue elephant every gets loose on my property!

The .260 is easy to load and is so versatile. Recoil is not a factor even for my young boys. Brass seems to be more difficult to find or at least a lot pricier than it was. Needing some brass this season, I just got some Win 7/08 brass and ran it into the .260 sizer die just enough to chamber and loaded them up-works great. I don't have a 7/08 so headstamp is not much of an issue for me.

As much as I like the .35s(and they are certainly super too) the mid sized 6.5s are the cat's meow for 99% of the hunting that I and most of us do. Plateau Hunter

Mine's a 358 Winchester built on a Mauser Action in a Bell & Carlson stock with a 20" Douglas barrel & Timney trigger. It just feels good in the hand and unless I'm hunting box blinds over long fields it's the one I take most often. Truth be told it would do for 95% of the shots I might ever get even in the box blinds.
