get him a marlin bolt action if the trigger is too stout replace trigger spring with a bic pen spring,it will out shoot the ruger more than likely with the heavy trigger,mike243

ps the drop on a auto at 100yrds is close to 10" & around 3.5 for a bolt, that in itself means alot to me,mike243

I'd grab him up a marlin bolt gun. The 10/22 is a fine rifle and accepts after-market parts real easy and there are a ton of add-ons to the ruger. That is exactly why I'd get him a Marlin bolt-rifle. He will always be happy with the Marlin...he'll never be happy with his 10/22. I have a 10/22 that I've been doing different stuff to for years and I'm still not happy!

????What the heck are you talking about? A .22 rimfire actually gets slightly higher velocity out of an 18" barrel than a longer barrel because of the small amount of quick burning powder, and there's no difference in velocity between a bolt or auto. I have my 10/22 and my Marlin 39 both sighted at 50 yards and there's no difference in drop at 100 yards that I can tell.
Personally, I like the bolt or lever guns so I can use CB longs for silent pest control in the yard. My pellet gun is way louder.

Remington named the Speedmaster not on its rate of fire, but the 21 inch bbl is supposed to be the optium bbl length for a 22 rimfire,,i have one of those but he needs his,

I've had both. Pick the Marlin.
