The deer movements are minimal , even with good browse in the area . Part of my problem is compounded by the landowner's dogs running through the property almost daily . The deer have avoided any type of openings , even in the cutover where a clear opening may only be 25 yards . They have altered their travel routes to avoid the dogs .

I'm having the same situation with the canines, Radar. I have a couple of wild dogs that have been roaming around for a couple of years that I've been trying to get rid of, but I have noticed 2 new "wild" dogs (they don't belong to any neighbors) running around the area where my food plots are located in the past couple of weeks. My deer and turkey sightings have gone to zero in the food plots in daylight hours, and the deer have shifted to a purely fescue (with assorted weeds) field at the other end of my property.

After my experimentation with holding off this year , I will not do the same next year . I will kill as many as possible in bow season .

Since we don't bow hunt, we really can't kill them early. But we start shooting them with abandon from day 1 of MZ season.

Now we don't purposefully back off the does during the peak of the rut, but this tends to happen by default. Everyone is so hyped about getting a rutting buck that they tend to hold off on the does at that time, hoping a buck is following.

After the rut, it's back to shooting does, although by late in the season, many of the hunters simply don't want to have to process and butcher another doe, so they get passed more often.

So again, by default, we end up killing the majority of the does we're going to kill during the 1st MZ season.
