Have you planted any of these hybrid oak trees? I have been seeing them advertised in the QDMA magazine and am interested in buying some of them. What is your opinion on these? Also, do you know what variety of apple tree will have fruit maturing and dropping in October, if any?

Certian species of oak can produce at very young ages.

That would be my guess as to them refering to Sawtooth Oak. They will produce at a young age.
Glanced at the website and the prices seem high to me.

I have used sawtooth oaks and they produce acorns starting about 7-8 years, depending on the growing conditions. It could be much longer if planted in an area with poor sunlight, dry poor soil, etc.
As far as apples, Arkansas Black and Yates are good ones that produce relatively late. Also Granny Smith. Stay away from the discount store trees. I like the trees at Warren county nursery, and they are reasonable.

Also, try Ison's nursery.

I would recommend standard size trees over the semi-dwarf. I have tried several species and suppliers and have also grown a lot of trees from seed and transplanted onto my property.

Don't forget about pear trees, too. Keiffer is a good variety for deer. Standard size is best IMO.

$5.00 a tree doesn't seem too high to me.
