I planted IW clover/chicory mix in mid-Oct., and it is coming up well. I also threw in a few pounds of rape, and it looks better than the clover/chicory. However, there are strips of my food plot (~15%) where not much of anything came up, because of my poor seeding with my hand-seeder. I had used Round-up a few weeks prior to planting, so there aren't many weeds/grasses either. My question is this: should I buy more seed, mark the bare areas with stakes, and try frost-seeding on our next snow? I live near Memphis, and we usually only get 2-3 snows annually, and they usually melt off quickly. Or will the bare spots be filled in by the established clover in the spring? I am afraid if I leave bare spots, grasses and broadleaf weeds will prevail in spring.

I would frost-seed, and it doesn't take a snow. The normal freeze and thaw temperature swings will get the seed to the proper depth.

Buy a cheap mix from a local seed distributor and overseed now. I started with WI Clover and overseeded with a co-op mix(ladino and crimson) and the deer hammer it. The plot is 3 yrs old to date and has a good blend that grew all year even with the drought. I sprayed it down this fall with arrest and it should be even better next year. Deer love clover!!!

Personally, I like to mix both white perennials and red bi-annuals.
