How come in QW magazine, you panelist are so inconsistant when aging those pics?

Some will have age ranges from 2.5-5.5 it seems. Lots from 3.5-5.5.

ARe those other guys that bad because I'm certain you are the right one. lol \:D

I sure hope I'm right!

The the biggest difference is where each of the panelists work geographically. There can be fairly significant differences in body conformation of same-age bucks in the South, Midwest and North. A northern sub-species buck puts on much more body mass at a young age than a Deep South buck.

When looking at articles/books about field-judging buck age that were produced in TX, those bucks look about a year younger than bucks in TN do. A 3 1/2 year-old buck in TX looks much like a 2 1/2 year-old buck in TN. With Deep South bucks it's even worse. A mature buck from the panhandle of FL will look a lot like a 3 1/2 year-old buck from TN. On the flip-side, a yearling buck from WI can look like a 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 year-old buck from TN.

But even when looking at bucks you are most familiar with, field-judging age is an inexact science. When I get the chance to tooth-wear age a buck I have a lot of trail-cam pictures of, I got the field-judged age right probably only around 80% of the time.
