Thought this approach is a worth considering for smaller clubs.

 Quote:
From a global perspective, Club 1 has a moderate doe density and Club 2 has a high doe density. It is obvious that during the breeding season, the bucks will gravitate toward the higher doe density. In addition, the QDM club has an older age structure in its buck population. The larger bucks will likely cause the medium size bucks to disperse to other areas because the larger bucks will control the few does that are available on the QDM property.

The problem is, neither of those assumptions are correct. Hunters often use "human logic" to predict how deer will act. However, deer do not use human logic, and much of how Nature works is contrary to what human logic assumes will be true.

Seems to me that the more does you have the less the bucks have to travel to find a doe hence decreasing the chance to see that already presured buck. There again that is using human logic.

Deer logic,.. not only is a buck looking for a hot doe,.. but a hot doe is looking for a buck. So that blows that theory of the club 1 and club 2 scenerio out the window.

To prove this,.. how many times have you hit a grunt call and a hot doe come running in. She looking for him like he is looking for her. I've done this numerous times. And ,.. its much more apparent in herds were the does is outnumbering the buck.

Ive hunted both types of property:
Property A - My lease - Aggressive doe harvest and no immature bucks harvested except for the occassional kid - A typical hunting day here you see 3 to 4 1 1/2 old bucks and 4 to 5 small does - with about 1 week of the year with a chance at a big boy if you are lucky enough to be there at that time.

Property B - Friends property which i get an occassional invitation - He never shoots does except with bow - He only shoots mature bucks - He sees 15 to 20 does a trip - 5 to 6 bucks a trip and kills 1 to 3 bucks a year scoring from 120 to 150.

Personally i would rather hunt property B

Your comparing apples and oranges Muddyboots. Who knows how many differences in habitat, deer density, herd structure and hunting pressure there are between the two properties.

The only accurate comparison (and even then there can be problems) is looking at the same property before and after management changes have been made.

I agree its hard to compare properties as the lease has tremendous hunting pressure. I was just stating an observation.

That is the reason why. Hunting pressure.

My bigger lease has shot:

9 does
1 button

Lots of pressure!

The 700 acres I lease:

2 really nice 6pts (both mountable even by my standards)
0 does

Only 3 folks hunting the 700 acres and not much at that. Very little pressure with lots of pressure around us.

Both properties are less than 2 miles apart. The bigger lease we have 25 food plots, the smaller lease we have 4 that weren't really meant to be as we were just playing around that day.

Pressure, pressure, pressure.

I know where I'll be this weekend. lol
