Has anyone hunted small game (rabbits, quail....) in the savanna restoration areas at catoosa? heard there was good hunting..... also heard that they had shredded or bush hogged these areas this year. Is this true? is it worth a trip over there?

I squirrel hunt catoosa all the time!! Great hunting, and I see lots of rabbit hunters and beagles around after the open hunts. I don't know about the area your talking about, but the mcneal strip pit looks great for rabbits!!! (near oakdale) I would also try near the Bi-color checking station. Several big fields around there that looks good for rabbits!!!

I noticed that several of the Savannah Oak restoration areas have been bush hogged. There are still plenty of other great areas for rabbits. Since these areas were bush hogged it might be better for hunting since they won't be able to hide as easy.
The edges that still have thickets should be great.

It matters which way you come into the area??? if you are comming from the Wartburg side once you get to the old catoosa checking station make a left turn....go up to the first gate. Right before that gate there is a road (the old county road) that goes to the left. Take that left and about 3-5 miles down you will run right into what is called the "mcneal strip pit". pretty big size field!!!
