This question is for anyone who conducts extensive camera census' but is mainly directed to BSK because I know he does. On another subject you mentioned that you guys dont hunt any until muzzleloader and try to keep your presence low. How do you accomplish this when you are running over 30 cameras? You have to be spooking deer and leaving human scent when you check your cameras.

Its all about conditioning, and how you handle the hunting situation as well.

Yup, conditioning. The deer learn my activities around the camera are not a threat, hence somewhat ignore them. Now that's not to say older, more expeienced deer don't avoid camera locations--they absolutely do, and that's why I move my cameras so frequently. But I've had the opportunity to watch deer interact with a camera that has been in place for more than a week and they don't "leave the area," they simply walk around it.

Just as deer learn the farmer on his tractor is no threat, they will learn that human scent and cameras are no real threat. Deer do not react to human pressence per se, they react to human activity that in their mind is a threat.

I was relocating a camera Sunday, and this old doe stood about 60 yards away diligently watching me, as I had seen her do many times in the past. Then I farted, and I haven't seen her since.

As for conditioning the deer , I try to put the camera in a spot that I can drive my truck close to . It keeps my scent down , and the truck doesn't spook the deer as bad as I do walking in .

I ride my ATV from camera to camera. I think that spooks the deer less than my walking from camera to camera (we do not hunt with ATVs).

Thats good to know. I also check my cameras on my 4-wheeler and walk to hunt. But my camera activity is still way-WAY down. What do you have your cams on right now?

So you could just drive your atv or truck, to your stand when hunting , act like your messing with a camera and trick them right.lol

A couple on food plots, a couple on travel-corridor bottlenecks, the rest on scrapes.
