So this is my first year muzzleloading. I bought a Thompson Center Omega .50 cal. All my buddies use 100 Grains of pyrodex and 300 grain bullet.
Is this a good combo?
Im just thinking if the gun maxes out at 150 grains of powder, why not max it out to make sure the fps is sufficient?
What do you guys think?
I put a nikon prostaff scope on it as well, so i know i SHOULDN't miss, just want to make sure there is enough [censored] on the shot.

That load has more than enough punch to get the job done. You might want to play with some different bullet and powder combos at the range though. Rifles, especially mz's, are like people in that they can have their own likes and dislikes. What may shoot well for your buddy's rifle may not shoot well in yours. Good luck.

I concur with post above. I always found my accuracy loads down around 70-110 grs. of powder. 150 would be hard on shoulder and ML. I don't know why they try the mag. stuff on ML's.There is several different powders and grades may have to try a few to hit on yer load. My expirence with blk. sabots and 300 gr XTP's was a hard loading combo, ok first shot off clean barrel. Tuff to load quick fer another in case it was needed. Better to run cleaning patch down and follow with dry patch and then reload.

I concur with Chris. I used to say anything over 100 is a waste but my taylored load is approx 105 gr of T7 3f loose with 250 gr shockwave. I've have shot 150 gr and would be all over the paper and I mean all over, sometimes not on at all.

unless you have a long barrel , alot of the 150 gr. loads are blown out the barrel before it burns. 120gr. is about the max. load for max. efficiency with a 26 inch barrel.
