I shoot the same Hornaday 240-grain XTP's (.44 cal + sabot) and 100 grains 777 (2 50-grain pellets) as your son and always get a pass through. Been shooting them for about 15 years. Shot a big doe Sunday evening at 98.5 yards (yes I ranged her) and she dropped in her tracks with a complete pass-thru.

The 7 pt. I got last Tuesday and the doe I shot Thursday afternoon both went down from a 240 gr. Hornady HP XTP w/sabot + 100 grains of Pyrodex pellets.
Doe dropped in her tracks, buck ran 10 yrds and layed down. 10 minutes or so later, he got up and ran/stumbled 20 yrds and layed down.
Got up and went 5 more yards and layed down.
It busted both shoulders. Found bullet under opposite side shoulder.
Doesn't have devastating power of my Barnes Expander, but my hand appreciates it when loading,LOL.

How are the Hornadys to load after the first shot? I'm shooting the Shockwaves (took two during the first season with good results- both pass throughs, one high shoulder shot that dropped in its tracks) and they're not as easy to load as PB.

How are the Hornadys to load after the first shot? Out of my Encore the 2nd shot is semi-okay but after that, good luck.

My son killed one opening morning with same bullet and so much blood was squirted out that you would get it on you tracking the deer. If I ever decide to shoot sabots that's what it will be.
