Congrats Steven!!! I also bought 85 acres. Thats been 8 years ago. I've learned alot since i bought mine then,.. and can tell you from experience,.. don't go about your management plan backwards. Don't worry about plots first. Focus on your habitat needs. Evaluate your trees. If its time for a select cut,.. do it first. The roads will be fixed by the logger,.. plus he will make loading docks that can be used as plots later. Then go in behind that and remove trees that have no value to you,.. or the wildlife. During this time,. evaluate intense cover for bedding. Then you can bring the dozer in to clear for areas you want plots.

I could have saved alot of money if i would have planned better on what i wanted from a management project on my place. AND,.. saved alot of sweat!! Ask questions before doing anything!! Doing 1 thing out of sequence can cost you in the long run.

Good luck,... and the most important thing is to have fun with it!!

well deerchaser the deal is that it has been cut pretty heavy and is pretty much all thick bedding cover, so theres no cutting to be done.

COngrats on the land purchase. I bought My first farm when I was 20 it was a brick house and 21 acres. I regret every day that I sold it when times got tough. Ive been saving money ever since to buy some more land. Im getting closer to my goal every day. Start a savings account for that other land that you want to buy now.

I bet you like the fact that it is a lot closer than the property you came to Humphreys county and looked at. Congrats

Yes Biggame that was pretty much the deciding factor. There are ten times the deer in Humphreys but I wanted something I could keep an eye on and work with alot. I still love that land over there in Humphreys though lol
