Thanks y'all. You got that right Ruger, I meant to make that week count,LOL.
Just think, I missed two more, LOL.
Still haven't got the pics off my phone, long story, but will get them up soon.
As I pulled into parking area Thursday morning, it looked like Nascar with 1 lap to go as all I saw were white flags.
I thought to myself, self,,,,, them idiots got up an hour early,LOL.
They weren't supposed to show up for another hour, but there they were waving their tails across the pasture.
Hunted rest of morning, didn't see anything. Had overdressed and got sweaty, took off coat and got to comfy in a chair in the barn.
Stayed in barn so I wouldn't spook them if they were still nearby. Anyway, was tired and once I settled into that chair, it was lights out.
Didn't doze long before waking up shivering. The breeze whipping through the trees and coming across the pond came swirling into the barn where I was without my coat and slightly damp from sweat.
I got up and went to van to warm up. Well that was a mistake as then I really got comfortable and warm and out I went again.
Don't think that snooze lasted long either before govols woke me up.
Then we looked around, planned out rest of day and ate a bite.
Govols decided to take a nap while I rearranged some gear.
We had never seen anything midday. I looked up and lo and behold, there was a doe out in the pasture near the barn.
I grabbed the mz and began the stalk. I made it inside the barn and went to an opening, but every time I peeped around, the doe would stare right at me.
I decided to go to other end and see if I had a shot from there.
Whatta ya know, there was doe #2. Afet some back and forth ducking and peeking by both of us, she finally felt ok and turned slightly quartering away.
I steadied the Knight Wolverine on barn door edge and as she turned to enter the woods edge, I dropped the hammer.
Smoked cleared and one white belly was sunny side up.
I snuck back around to check on other doe and she was standing in same spot looking really nervous.
I hurried back to trucks to find govols standing next to his vehicle trying to figure out where I was and where the shot came from,LOL.
I told him I had one down and one more standing out in the pasture.
We snuck back over to the barn and govols popped the 2nd doe, just as she was exiting the field.
We gathered those two up and headed for processor.
At the processor, we picked up our deer from Sat. and Tuesday.
Govols took his home and I left to carry mine home at other end of county.
Govols went back hunting while I was gone.
When I finished, I headed back and called him.
He said he had another doe down already and two more were out in middle of pasture.
By the time I got there, they had moved to the end of pasture, which was about 150+ yards or so.
There wasn't enough legal shooting time left to do a stalk, as you would have to virtually crawl.
I din't feel they would come closer and without a scope, decided to let them pass.
I asked govols if I could look at them through his mz scope to see them even better.
He said I could shoot one with his mz if I wanted to. I haven't shot a mz with a scope before, so I said ok.
I steadied the gun on the half door opening, made sure barn cat was nowhere around and aimed just above top of back/spine.
Gently squeezed the trigger and #3 was down.
I had not been hunting but 3 times in last 4 years.
I hadn't shot a deer in 5 years.
I hadn't seen a deer while hunting in 4 years.
I hadn't shot and missed in 5 years.
I hadn't tasted deer meat in 3.5 years.
I resolved all those have nots in 1 week.
Hunted 3 days last week.
3 deer: 7 pt., doe and button buck.
Seen deer every trip out, including the only time to scout it.
Shot and missed twice .
Ate deer meat Sat. morn, Sat. night, Sunday morn, Sunday night, Monday morn and Monday night.
I'm not looking back, I'm looking forward and upward. I even bought a new freezer,LOL.
Govols shot 3 does last week to total 6 between us.
I sure have missed being in the woods and seeing all of Gods creation and hunting at same time.
Thanks for the invite Govols, I really appreciate it.
Thanks for all the replies here and in other thread.
Happy and Safe hunting to all !!
