Take 3 pallets, stand them up and arrange them in a u-shape, brace with 2x4's, put roof across top,and hang a canvas tarp over open end for door. They make a pretty good and cheap shooting house for a rainy or windy day. Tar paper or tarp around outside keeps out rain and wind. Then all you need is good chair and small pillow for an occassional nap!!!!

However, this is the do-it-yourself section, and he is just suggesting a do-it-yourself, inexpensive, deer hunting, project. And doing such is a part of the fun of the sport. Besides, if you have three pallets and don't have $40.....

I would think one benefit of a small, cheap blind like this one is that you can build it a month before you need it and let the wildlife get used to it's presence. Popups are still something "new" and may be noticed by an alert target... er, deer.
I would think that if you have four pallets, you probably wouldn't even need the 2x4s!

Thanks for the support 4onaside. Simple fun project that can be left overnight without worrying that someone will steal it. I have 3 pop-up blinds and deer will definitely notice something new if you put your pop-up where it can be seen easily. My pallet shooting house stays there year round. Besides half the fun of deer hunting is the off season projects.

Dang 4onaside, no need to be touchy and defensive. I was simply pointing out an alternative to his idea. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. If you hunt public land you may not be able to build one and leave it year round. I've hunted out of set-ups very similar to this one and yes they work. I'm all for it if you have the private property to do it on and leave them up.

Not touchy, just voicing my understanding of the fun involved in screwin' around with outdoor projects. My statement wasn't meant as a challenge to yours. I certainly hope that there aren't any real controversial subjects in the do it yourself area.
