Take 3 pallets, stand them up and arrange them in a u-shape, brace with 2x4's, put roof across top,and hang a canvas tarp over open end for door. They make a pretty good and cheap shooting house for a rainy or windy day. Tar paper or tarp around outside keeps out rain and wind. Then all you need is good chair and small pillow for an occassional nap!!!!

A pop-up blind will do the same and can be moved from place to place. Plus it's much ligher. ;\)

Yeah it will, and yes it can, and you can get in one nowdays starting at around 40 bucks, and it's hard to build anything for that.
However, this is the do-it-yourself section, and he is just suggesting a do-it-yourself, inexpensive, deer hunting, project. And doing such is a part of the fun of the sport. Besides, if you have three pallets and don't have $40.....

But you may not be able to set the pop up in a tree ;\)

I would think one benefit of a small, cheap blind like this one is that you can build it a month before you need it and let the wildlife get used to it's presence. Popups are still something "new" and may be noticed by an alert target... er, deer.

I would think that if you have four pallets, you probably wouldn't even need the 2x4s!

Thanks for the support 4onaside. Simple fun project that can be left overnight without worrying that someone will steal it. I have 3 pop-up blinds and deer will definitely notice something new if you put your pop-up where it can be seen easily. My pallet shooting house stays there year round. Besides half the fun of deer hunting is the off season projects.

Dang 4onaside, no need to be touchy and defensive. I was simply pointing out an alternative to his idea. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. If you hunt public land you may not be able to build one and leave it year round. I've hunted out of set-ups very similar to this one and yes they work. I'm all for it if you have the private property to do it on and leave them up.

Not defensive, why should I be defensive, as it was not my idea to start with? Not touchy, just voicing my understanding of the fun involved in screwin' around with outdoor projects. My statement wasn't meant as a challenge to yours. I certainly hope that there aren't any real controversial subjects in the do it yourself area. \:\)

I say get four pallets bust one of them down and get the 2x4 you need. As for the tarp just use some limbs around the area you set up the blind.
In addition, while you are at it set up three or four of them because it is so inexpensive. I however, would take off every other board so I could see well. Moreover, use the openings for a gun prop.
Good ideal!

I have 5 of the Pallet shooting houses that stay up year round. In the last two year deer have been taken out of all of them. I would rather be in a stand enjoying God's nature, but weather doesn't always permit this. We put folding chairs in them and usually some type cushion. I have spent some long nasty rainy day hours in these very confortably. Have even been known to take a nap.

I was on the mountain on our lease yesterday and checked a couple of my pallet shooting houses. Got a reminder real quick on one thing. If you leave them all year, be careful of wasp nest built in them. One other thing, if you want them taller, you care set them on four 8 inch block, one under each corner.

Finally dug up this picture of one of our three pallet blinds. It's a "deluxe" model in that we wrapped it with roofing felt to semi-windproof it, put a piece of scrap plywood on for a roof, and used some burlap scraps to help hide some of the sharp corners. Total cost was - zero, since we used all scrap!

Blood WAS shed from this blind in 2006!

The picture was taken a couple of months before rifle season opened last year.
