Just bought a set of BPS Front & Rear Shooting Bags to use at the range for sighting in my ML and rifles.
The directions say to fill with -dry silica sand -kitty litter -rice or -ground corn cob tumbling media. I dont have any of the above so will be headed out to buy one of these options. I am guessing that sand would be the heaviest but also the cheapest?
What have you used, and which works the best?
Thanks!

If you're not in a hurry, order the silica sand from Midway, Sinclair or other prominent shooting supply store. It is heavier than regular sand and seems to be easier to fill bags with. Doesn't seem to clog up funnels and filler tubes nearly as bad as regular "sandbox" sand, packs better and makes for a generally more stable bag. However regular "sandbox" sand would be my next choice.

If you use regular "sand box" sand just put it in the oven at a low temp for a few hours and dry it out real good.... This makes it alot easier to put into the bags...

Get yourself a section of arrow shaft, duct tape, and a small funnel. Put em together and then vibrate the sand into the bags. You can buy the same thing from shooting stores for 10 or 12 dollars or make your own. It's a pain filling those bags. Some people use the reptile sand sold at pet shops. I've always used plain play sand from Lowe's but there are better things available if you want to shell out the dough.

I used bird seed about 7-8 years ago and it is still in there with no problems. I just gotta keep them dry. Works great!!

I used wheat a couple of years ago and about 6 months later they were infested with bugs. The new set has buck wheat hulls - good rest and really lightweight for lugging around to the range.
