Thats a great shot ewc
Congrats!
I really like the built in bullet drop compensators. I use a nikon prostaff for my Opt. 50 cal. (above), and feel real comfortable out to 150 yds right now. I will be working with it later to get her dialed in to about 200/250 if I can. It takes alot of range time, but like you I just like to shoot and want to know my limit.
I also have topped my 270 WSM with a Leupold ao 4x12 bp v11 for deer & elk hunting. I feel comfortable out to 400/500

EWC That is a fab shot. I cannot make the long shots but still want too. Yesterday I watched a possum running around in a wheat field, he would move a few feet then stop and dig a little. I was wanting to see if I could hit him at about 120-150 yards. I did not shoot him but just to let you know that I know the feeling.
This is also a good time to thank you for the loading info you have passed on in the past. Again congrats.

I guess when you do something that most others can't - you should expect ridicule. Especially here. Appreciate that guys.

None of you know me and therefore shouldn't cast judgement. I've killed two bucks in TN since 2001 (an 8 and a 9). I've killed between 22-30 does since then. When you strive to kill does like I do, then you're going to have some antlerless buck mortality - especially at yardages most of you cannot shoot.

Steven-

Learn some respect. The Marine sniper in the lease next to us sure knows it. He thought it was a [censored] good shot - as do I.

I was proud enough of it to include the fact that it was a button buck - a fact that I regretted for about 3 seconds.

Now if that's not the kettle calling the skillet black! Remember me....I got eat up because I happened to shoot a 1/2 group with my Savage at 200 yards ! Like you said just because you have not done it does not mean it can't be done. ;\)
Your shot does not surprise me in the least. That gun is very capable of that shot. It takes a lot of practise at the range and some luck to pull it off. I have had a couple kills right at the 250 mark and a half dozen or so close to 200 yds. I just have not felt comfortable pushing that 300 yd mark yet but I may try it on a doe one day. Congradulations on once again showing the superiority of the Savage Smokeless gun.

PS: You know if we could get by the Randy Wakeman thing we might have more in common than you think!

All of you Quigley types, take a paper plate out to 300/326/500 or whatever you think your hunting "range" is. Then take your MZ and shoot at it one time, hunting conditions, no bench rest or any of that stuff. If you can't hit it every time then you're kidding yourselves about your marksmanship and ought to seriously think about maiming game at such distances. I use the pie plate deal because that is about the size of the vitals of a whitetail deer. Missing at 50 yards is not acceptable by anyone, then why would missing at extreme distances be acceptable either. Same difference.

Something to consider;

I only shoot long distances when I have the following:

A steady rest (shooting sticks)
Known distance (range finder)
Tested ballistics (shot at the range)

Congrats Guy! i am amazed that you can be that good with the ml.....I personally am not comfortable at over 120 yards because i like to shoot em close with the ML. But that is certainly a tremendous feat that if you do consistently then you will be special! However it has been my experience that anyone who launches those kind of shots with a smokepole will also lose some great bucks eventually because there is just toooooo much that can go wrong with those kind of distances. That is nose bleed with a ML. When they teach smokepoles to marines???

Yep I'm blind. You must be too. You can't see the forest for the trees.

My friend was urging me to shoot. Nothing more or less.

I guess there may have been 36" of drop. He did go straight down 36" - with a high shoulder shot.

Don't bad mouth the shot because you can't do it yourself.

Congrats! Sounds like an awesome shot!
