Went to shoot again today. here is a pic of the first shot out of a crysyal clean gun at 25 yds.

Here is the 4 shot group I shot with out spit patching between. This was at 75 yards, couldn't get an clear shot any further than that. I will limit my shots to 100 MAX untill I can shoot it to see where it hits. The size of that can is 2 3/4" wide.

2 shots one side of center 2 shots other side of center i would say shoot just hold a little high 4-5 inches out to 150. that rifle is zeroed.. it thru those shots left and right i bet due to sight picture/ crosshair alignment and cheek to stock weld just being slightly different each shot. espically if ya did not make any adjustments, and look at that clean barrel shot it was dead on....

No adjustments made, Was shooting withthe gun rested on the back of a camp chair and me kneeling. So sight picture could have changed a little. Plus I was trying to hurry cause the kids wanted to go spooking! LOL
I think It will be ok. Where do you think it would hit at 100 yards? I am guessing about an inch low? is that correct?

looks like it reached maximum ordinate ( midrange trajectory)at that 75 yard range or just a little beyond. i bet it is dead on at 100 and about 4-5 in. low out to around 150.

Renegade- You seen to have the trajectory thing figured out pretty well. If you don't mind, I'd appreciate a "guesstimate". I'm shooting the same powder/ bullet combination as spctbone. I'm sighted in 2 inches high at 50 yds. My guessing is that I should be pretty much dead on at 100. Where I hunt anything over about 80 yards in the woods is not probable but we do have a powerline where the ridges are about 100 yards apart, so it could be possible to sit on a ridge and see 100 yards in either direction. Thanks.

Thanks. its gotta be along the same lines approx. as spctbone, ya got line of sight , line of bore and path of bullet, path of bullet always crosses line of sight twice as the bullet is "climbing" and then "falling"(which it really dosent cause it is line of bore that is slightly angled upward to cross along line of sight a bullet starts falling the instant it leaves the muzzle from gravity)ml,s zeroed at 100 (and not talking savage smokeless here dont have one but i will after income tax)usually have 1.5 to 3 in. mid range height at the 45-75 yard range if zeroed at 100. aim dead on at 100 you should be good... if ya look at spctbone 25 yard shot it is still below line of sight and looks like it is starting to go down ward at that 75 yard area .. and this all depends on your scope mounting height also above bore line, lenght of barrel, rate of twist are all factors too, charge and bullet weight also... just some experiences from 24 years shooting for uncle sugar in the infantry and ml hunting since the mid 80's ...so everyone please dont jump all over me. hahaaaa!!!

OK so does me having the high shoot through scope mounts change what you said earlier? Center of the scope is probably 1" from the top of the barrel.
I also want to thank you renegade50 for taking the time to help some guys out! It is people like you that make this site what it is!

its how you zero that weapon and see what it does at certain ranges. your mid range trajectory will change its high point based on scope height above line of bore center line at different ranges, say you and another guy have the exact same setup and load but the differenc is ring height yours might be say 2.5 inches high at 60-75 yards with high rings and hit deadon at 100 , your buddy might have low rings on his and hit that 2.5 in high mark at 45-60 yards and be dead on at 100. either way a rise and fall of roughly 4-6in. basically the lower the ring/scope to the bore the flatter the tracjectory out to your dead on hold and that range may increase also. aiming center of a deers chest should give a good range of around 150 before alot of holdover comes into effect to make up for bullet drop. with my 50 cal renegade with iron sights taking the top 1/4 to 1/3 of the bead in the very bottom of the notch on the rear sight, im pretty dead on to point of aim out to around 75-90 yards in that up and down path of the bullet, my max distance is 110 yards holding with about 2 inches of back line/fur above the bead and the bullet will drop 3-5 inches depending on the fineness of that bead. i have had the gun since 1992 and have probably shot that wpn upwards of 500-600 times on the range just mentally getting to know it over the years, and am looking for the 14th or 15th kill with it this weekend. just getting to know the wpn is the best thing ya can do with range homework, and this will all go out the tubes for me this tax season cause im gonna go to the darkside and geta savage smokeless, cause i have had some big boys over the years well out of range with the tc renegade , but at least a savage smokelessit is still a muzzle loader in the sense of the word... hope everyone has success tommorow morning!!!!
