There have been counterfeit Mark IV's from China on the market for over a year now. Most are sold on Ebay. But you can call them with the serial number on the scope if you are buying one used and they will be able to tell you if it's real or a fake.
I can't really figure out the Mark IV scope line, though... it is constructed identically (including the exact same glass) as the VX-III LR scopes. You can buy a vxIII LR, send it to the factory and have them install M1 finger knobs, M1 side focus all for $160. Presto, now you have a scope identical to the Mark IV for hundreds less than the cost of the Mark IV (As long as you don't mind the gold ring on the objective, rather than a black ring... and a sharpie will take care of that  )
