I'll have to agree with the Bushnell Banner. I have two one on a 308 and one on a 270 that have been on them from the early to mid 1960's and have taken their share of game and are still going strong.

Bass Pro has the Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn 3-9X40 scope on sale thru their catalog or internet order for $79.99. This scope also comes in an extended eye relief model (6 inch EER). I own 2 of these models; one is on my Encore and the other is on my H & R Ultra Slug Hunter. They are very stout scopes and have great glass! I am very pleased with them. I just bought one Thursday for my .30/06 to replace a Bushnell sportsman which has a "triplex" reticule, which to me the thickness of which overwhelmed your field of view. I debated that or a Nikon Pro-staff for twice the price. To me, its a great looking scope with optics that appear to be at least as bright as the Nikon. And Dick's currently has it for $69.95.

anything but trashco or simmons. bushnell makes great scopes for the money. I've never had any problems with Tascos, although I have heard some horror stories(actually some about other makes also). However, I took a cheap Simmons to Colorado on an elk hunt, and discovered that the eye-piece lens had quite a bit of forward and back play in it, with no way to tighten it up. But, it still told me where to put the bullet at about 275 yrds! LOL
