I just got a new 270 the other day and need to purchase a scope to put on it. I already have another rifle with a Nikon on it that i hunt with primarily so this gun will be more of a backup/change up gun.

any suggestions for an inexpensive good scope. I see alot of Simmons Blazers for pretty cheap but it is hard to believe that a 40$ scope is really worth it. I am leaning towards a 3x9-50 but i am open to whatever.

in before the first,"your rifle is only as good as your scope comment". Really lots of guys shoot inexpensive scopes on their guns. Nothing wrong with your thoughts on 3x9x50.

I have a Nikon Monarch on my other rifle now (didnt have to buy it, it was a gift thank god) and all the people in my Family have Leopolds VX111's so i can only compair to that which is sorta unfair. I dont mind buying an inexpensive scope i just dont want to get one that i have to replace in a year or 2. Also I am concerned about the eye relief and the amount of light i can see early and late. I dont know anyone that owns a scope on my budget to test out so any brands or models would be a big help.

I have a Simmons 2.5-10 x50 and love it. I also have Leupolds, Ziess and even a Schmidt and Bender. the Simmons will work just fine for what you want it for.

Simmons Whitetail Classic is a good scope for the price.

I can't remember what model it is. They don't make them anymore. CPerkins is right. The Whitetail Classic is a good scope. My Wife has a 1.5-6x on her .243. Works great.

I've had my Simmons Whitetail Classic since 1993 and no problems so far. It's not as bright in dim light as my Monarch but it will do for any legal shooting times. Cabelas has them for $110.
