I am posting this for a friend that is wanting some opinions on some bullets to shoot out of his CVA Optima Pro.. I was told that the powerbelts with the aerotip 245gr with 100g 777 would shoot really well. but i was reading on here that the bullets where not performing well and not leaving blood trails. is there any other bullet that will shoot just as well out of this gun better with performance besides the Powerbelts heavier grain? right now he was shooting the 240gr XTP sabot's and grouping well at 50 yards but shooting 8-9 inch groups at 100 yards. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried the 240 grain XTP sabots. They were very accurate but gave poor performance on deer.

That is weird. Usually the XTP sabots are the most accurate out of any gun ive tried. How many grains of powder. He probably can drop his powder to 90 or 100 grains and tighten his groups up at 100 yards.

Dropping powder load to 90 grains will probably help. The more powder I shoot in my MZ, the more the groups open up at 100 yards. My best load is 90 grains of 777.

Also does he have the high pressure (black) sabots. The green ones wont handle over 60 or 70 grains in my experience.

I shoot my optima pro with two 50 grain 777 pellets and a Hornady 250 grain SST sabot. Groups excellent and really knocks down the deer.

The optima I had did well with the 348 gr powerbelts and 100 gr. of 777. It also liked a 410 gr. great plains conical with 90 gr. of 777.

i have been shooting the 240gr XTP bullets for 10 years or more with more kills than i can remember. i have NEVER had a deer take another step after it was shot. that may change with the next one but so far, i couldn't be more pleased with them. 90 gr. pyro(loose).
