iam shooting a 270 savage , with 130 grain barnes triple-shock bullet . my question is . at 50 yards what would you sight the gun in for . like an inch high or inch 1/2 or what ? my longest shot would be around 200 yards where i hunt. thanks in advance .

Sight in 1" at 100yds and forget any holdover out to 300yds.

There's a lot of other variables but on average about a half inch high should put you dead on at 200 yds. and about an inch and a half high at 100. That should be in the neighborhood but shoot it after sighting to confirm. Scope height, barrel length and velocity, type of bullet, temperature, pressure, and many others affect the trajectory. That half inch high at 50 should be right on for minute of deer out to 200 though.

Good bullet choice. Try this software I have found it to be very accurate to 300yds.

so where would that put me at 100 yards?

If the rifle shoots 1&1/2 inch groups at 100 you'll never need to know anything closer. If you're using it for deer hunting put a 3 inch circle at 200 yards and when you get it where you can hold them inside the circle consider yourself ready for a big buck. Everything else is speculation until you put it on paper. If it will consistantly do this over several trips to the range with no change then consider yourself the lucky owner of a good rifle. Then if one gets away you'll know it's your own fault. I admit it, my rifles shoot much better than I do under hunting situations.
