The .260 Rem is a great round imo. However it is at its best when handloaded. It offers good ranging, high sd with super penetration, low recoil, and functions in a short action.
My rifle is a Ruger MkII stainless synthetic boat paddle. It isn't pretty but it functions well.
My favorite whitetail load for it is 45.0g/Reloder 19/129g Hornady spire point. The load shoots good out of my rifle. My pure varmint load is 42.0g/Win 748/90g Speer TNT. However I have shot more varmints(coyotes) with the deer load as that is what I had at the time. These loads are safe in my rifle-as always start lower and work up in your rifle. Good shooting. What kind of 700 is it? Mtn? Ti? I have a M7 that I like, but would like to eventually find a 700 to match my 7/08. My winter project will be to get set up to do some reloading, have the dies already for the 7/08 and 260.

100 Bts over 49 gr of H414=3100 out of my mountain rifle 129 hornady interlocks over 45 gr of h414
both of this loads average .5 -.75 out my rifle and show no signs of pressure
ALWAYS START LOWER THAN THESE NUMBERS BECAUSE THESE LOADS MAY BE UNSAFE IN YOUR WEAPON
