Good stuff right there.
Just curious as I'm reloading for my 270 WSM, 7mm WSM, and my 300 WSM, how did the RL19 do for the 270 WSM and what was your powder charges, OAL, and group size?

I never shot the 19, .6`s and I`m done. The chronograph liked that powder too with low ES.
I had loaded 66.7 and 67.2 grains of 19 to try with the 130. OAL was 2.830 to fit the magazine of the A-Bolt.
mr big, I realized why I quit shooting it, as I never had a FL die made and the tight headspace made the cases hard to chamber.
I have learned more since shooting it and have learned to rob Peter to pay Paul when dies come to mind.
I used a buddies Redding S-Type 6mm AI FL die to bump the shoulder and now have 50 Lapua cases at my liesure.
I zero`d it today and shot some N170 and RL25 in it.

Nice groups Tim. I'll be doing quite a bit of shooting in the near future. I've got a 6BRX 600&1000 yd. competition rifle in the works. I've got all the possibles collected and my barrelled action is in the mail as we speak. It's a SA blueprinted Rem 700 with a 28 inch Kreiger HV barrel. I'm waiting on a laminated competition stock which should be shipped in the next couple of weeks to do my bedding and final assembly. I've got a lot of work to do on it and the ammo in the next month or two but hope to have it ready for the spring competition start. We'll see what happens. I've been getting advise from several of the top shooters and my smith who's doing the metalwork has done several record setting rifles. Here goes nothing. As soon as I get all the components together I'll post a picture of the before state and then the after.

That is some real good shooting thar. I only wish ALL my groups looked like yours. I can shoot a few groups each day that look fairly close to those but not each group. My groups usually look better on less humid days.

Thanks all for the kind words.
Whelen Man, I am glad you dove in head first. It is good you have all the first class help, as I had great help with mine in the gunsmith area as well.
I`m going to shoot practise here tomorrow at 600 with the 6-47 and 6.5/284. I`m really looking forward to it.
I have been getting dialed in a little better with these rifles.
I hope to shoot some better groups tomorrow.

Maybe we can get together at a shoot next year and swap tales. I thought about a 6.5/284 but planned mostly for 600 yd. shoots and went a little smaller. There are several 6BRX shooters here locally and I've been heeding their advice. I see a few 6-47s and 6.5/284s along with several others. There are so many different wildcat competition cartridges that it gets confusing getting started. There's a ton of information and the more you learn the more confusing it seems to get. This reloading can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. Maybe I'll see you next year at a shoot Tim. Just go easy on me.

Tim how is recoil in the 270 WSM if its a standard 7 1/4 pound or so hunting rifle? What would it be comparable to?

I guess very similar to your 7mm Saum. I was able to shoot it free recoil, with no second hand on the rifle at all. I shot it again today as many here seem to think the RL19 is the trick, it isn`t in this particular rifle.

Whelen Man, I hope I can make a shoot you are going to.
I`d like to meet and greet anyone like minded.
The BRX should be an excellent choice, and it is easier on the pocket book with 6BR dies already available.
You will want a 243 FL or SB die to size the base.
I shot today at 600 and turned in my personal best 5 shot group, it was with the 6/47 and the 108 Bergers and the group was 2.150".
Still have some work to do on the Lt 6.5/284, but am culling loads and seeing a path and will have it dialed in soon.
Last Saturday I shot 3 groups that agged 2.9".
I want to do better.
Todays 2+ inch was a shot in the arm toward that goal.

Sounds like you're getting it all together if you're pushing 2 inches. At the first shoot I attended back in the summer I asked one of the top shooters what they considered a good group. He said anything under 2 inches was considered very good. I learned though that only a few if any that size are shot per competition. I've seen some in the ones but only a few and that's out of a lot of good competitors. If you're pushing 2 inches you should do well in the shoots.
When I ordered my dies I also ordered a 308 Winchester body die per the advise of another BRX shooter. Just last night I sorted brass according to weight and took my lightest 50 cases and sized them up to 6.5mm to set a shoulder for fireforming and then sized them about halfway down to 6mm. I'll have to get the barreled action before I can do my final sizing for a crush fit for fireforming.
I've got some of the Sierra 107s I'm going to use for fireforming but I also bought some Berger 108s and hope my rifle likes them as they are the bullet I'd like to use. We'll see.

This rifle sure liked the load. I hope yours will too.
Whelen Man, I had a 6Dasher reamer made last year, but took a different path with the 6/47 when it appeared Lapua brass was about to enter the country. I have 2 Krieger barrels about to be delivered if not already that were ordered months ago.
I still have a craving for the Dasher, and will probably chamber at least 1 if not both of the Kriegers in that chambering.
I don`t really know, though as I don`t have a 6BR barrel for my Lt gun.
The Dasher/BRX is the way to go to me anywho.

It looks like Winchester is discontinuing the WXR? H-870 being dropped Been looking at Hodgdon Retumbo possibly for another slower powder to look at or Imr 7828 what do you think

WXR is still available at a few outlets, and I`d grab some if it were me. I bought a 10 pound case of the stuff.
H4831sc was the go to powder in 2 previous 270 WSM`s I loaded for if you are looking to purchase something locally.

Tim-
Your recipe for the H-4831sc?
I shot mine today with 66.5 and 130 BTs at 3175 but it had a sticky bolt and flat primers. This was in an A-Bolt II and 75 degrees.
Fed premium 140 AB's in factory round went 3178 fps and 3/4 moa.
Suggestions?
Thanks.
Edited by ewc (10/14/07 07:36 PM) Edit Reason: error in fps

That rifle of yours is showing pressure signs earlier than any 270 WSM I have loaded for.
I usually take them a little past where you hit pressure.
If you have a lot of rounds on the barrel, a carbon buildup can cause early signs of pressure, so give it a really good cleaning.
Unfortunatly carbon is the hardest to remove.
If you have been keeping it clean, then a tighter bore might cause it, or a faster lot of H4831sc.

Tim, you need to chunk that Dasher. Here's a link to an article on one of the shooters I was talking to at the last shoot about the BRX. BRX rules! I just hope mine will do anywhere close to his. It might, but I might not. Seriously, they're almost the same but poor folks like me need to go with the BRX because the dies are cheaper.

I already have dies, bought them back when I ordered the reamer.
That little Dasher has had its share of victories.
Don`t count out a Dasher till the fat lady sings.........
That is a beautiful rifle and group.

I've got a similar model stock on order from the same producer only in the camo laminate. I looked at that rifle at the last shoot and got some info from him on loads and fireforming. He's a nice guy and willing to help a newcomer. I've already seen some nice Dasher groups too so get to building.
