Just a question for those of you who on a daily bases carry a concealed weapon. I have a Sig 229 right now and I do not think it will make for a suitable concealed weapon(to heavy to bulky). I want to know what every carries and what they recommend. I have looked all over from Glock 19's to Kimbers carry line. Any advice and help is appreciated.
Oh and I am not set on a caliber or anything like that I just want some suggestions so I can check into them even more.

General rule: The biggest gun you can carry and shoot comfortably and accurately.

I have two that I carry depending on the weather and what I'm wearing.

For warm weather I use a Smith & Wesson 642 J-Frame .38 Special. I wear it either inside the waist band or in my pocket (strong side) in a pocket holster.

The other option for me is a Glock 19 9mm in either an outside the waistband holster or inside the waistband holster. During winter jacket weather I carry it OWB.

My advice would be to rent some at a local range and see what you like.

You are also very likely to encounter the brutal "caliber wars" that come with this decision. Some think the 9mm is fine with modern bullet construction, others think anything less than a .40 is worthless, and others think the .45 is the only choice. Ignore that stuff. Find something you can shoot accurately and quickly and choose a quality bullet like Speer Gold Dot or something along those lines. Even the mighty .45 ACP is weak compared to what I'd really choose if I knew I'd have to fight my way out of a situation. You can research and find all kinds of cases where a 9mm did the job easily and where the .45 didn't slow down an attacker and vice versa. Make your decision based on you. If you're not comfortable with it it's worthless.

It's a good quality gun. I've never had a misfire. Very lightweight and it fits in the palm of your hand. Recoil is surprisingly light for a 45 and its very accurate.

To small for me Duckbuster, I am going to shoot a 23 tomorrow those baby glocks are just to small for my hands. I know you can get the extended mags for them but that makes them about the same size as the 23.

I carry a 22 on duty and love it... alot of buddies have the 23s for duty but most i know have 27's for off duty bc they are easy to hide.. you are right about the 23 and 27 being same as size but not as in weight.. the 27 holds less ammo. but i would def. go with a 40.. alot of people say go with 45 but at longer distances the 40 will out do the 45 with knockdown/stopping power. either way they are both big holes \:\)

The weapon that was invented, for concealment, is the small frame 38 snub nose, hidden hammer. You can have your hand on it, in your jacket pocket, sweat shirt, your wife can have her hand on it in her purse, and it fires. No slide to move, no hammer to catch. Most will shoot +P loads, which at close range are deadly as any. Everyone in my family, and immed. family all carry the same thing. I have heard a lot of opinions on other weapons, but the bottom line is that if the bad guy pulls aweapon on you, you don't have time to reach in a shoulder holster, hip holster, back holster. You want to reach for your wallet as instructed and shoot them. It is not just concealment and weapon dependability, it is the ability to fire without the bad guy knowing you are armed. Reaching for a weapon sort of gives it away, as does a big lump in your side, back, etc. This subject raises a lot of passion from people loyal to a specific weapon. But you must remember, different weapons were made for different purposes. The snub nose hidden hammer was made for concealment, for police detectives.

Either a Sig 232 in .380 or a 5 shot Smith 642. Never found a larger pistol that could cover well. I did like my Colt Government Model, but the weight bothered me, and I carry a pistol everyday at work, but in a belt holster. You have to have a comfortable carry pistol or you will find yourself leaving it in the truck or at home, which does nobody any good.

Glock subcompacts are very easily concealed and you can always add a pinky extension. I have very big hands and the extension makes it a whole lot better. Here is a pic of my G-33 .357 SIG. Three plus one and a plus two extension mags that I use primarily at the range. I also use the Bonded Remington Golden Sabers as carry rounds.

I went and shot the 23 tonight, it felt pretty good, I am going to miss the accuracy of my Sig 229, but I will at least carry this with me. Guess accuracy is over rated when most self defense shots come so close. Thanks for all the help ya'll.
