I opted to start a new thread about this instead of high jacking the round ball/conical thread.

How many of you have actually retrieved bullets, fragments, or other strange items from some of the deer you have harvested.

Here are a few bullets I have found over the past 28 yrs.

12ga slug, front shoulder opposite side, 100 yd shot.

Two 7mm Rem. Mag, One broadside shoulder, The long flat one hit a tree branch and flipped end over end 10ft before hitting the buck.

Next two are the same bullet, .444 Marlin, shot deer straight on in the base of the neck at 75 yds, found bullet in left rear ham, between meat and hide. Perfect mushroom.

I have taken two deer over the yrs that had arrows in them, One in the spine the other was shot really far back and the arrow broke off in frt of the right rear leg. That buck was very badly infected and was not salvageable.

All of those bullets are at least 8 or 9 yrs old now, I started reloading shortly after that and have yet to find one since. I am using the Noslar 154 gr Ballistic tips in my 7mm Rem Mag (very lethal) I have not reloaded a round for the .444 Marlin yet, still have some ammo left for that one.

I no longer shot a smooth bore 12ga and use the Brenneke Heavy Field Magnums, they are very very accurate and punch one heck of a hole, even out beyond 150 yds.

I've got the 44 magnum slug that I found in the first deer I shot years ago. I got interested in the 35 Whelen and had one built and that was the end of bullet recovery. That 44 mag slug was taken from a deer hit square in the front of the chest and recovered behind the ham between the ham and the hide. I'll see if I can find it and get a pic. It's somewhere buried in the garage.

Lethal I should say so
dont those ballistic tips blow up like a hand grenade with the 7mm mag vel at close range
that has been my experience

Heavy ballistic tips in a 7 mag should be alright. I would be scared to take a really close shot with the 140 gr. or less. But past 100 yards they should be below Noslers published max velocity. I didn't know about the 154 gr. but would see no problems with those.
