Here's a little trick that you can carry right in your back pocket.

Get a couple of regular wire paper clips and clip them to your big game tag.

When you kill, unbend the paper clip and use the end to polk holes (marking) the proper date and game type in the tag.

Then use the end to polk a hole in the deer's ear.

Slide it part way though, slide your tag on, give it a twist to secure it.

No strings, tape, pens,...or other stuff to carry or remember.

6" nylon zip ties work very well also and can be used for a multitude of other needs as well.

I use zip ties as well. Zip tie the deers ear shut with tag inside so that the tag does not accidently come off while dragging

I use a bread tie and it is reusable. and it will hold the tag right around the legs of any animal.
