OK, I am going to remove all the platic tips on my platnum powerbelts. They are falling out anyways when loading and I know to use a different rod tip but what the heck. My questions is... will it be bad to do this? I figure it would be OK since I will remove all the tips and have small hollow points. Also I will reshoot my gun tomorrow and find out anyways. Just prying for some input.

Acctually without the tips they look like the hollow point bullets I use to use before using areotips. I shot ok with them, but thought the areotips would more accurate. I hear guys loosing the tips, but I have never lost one. Is your tip your using have enough clearance so it's pushing on the bullet and not the tip?

I am not sure but I am using the rod tip that is on the gun. It is a CVA optima elite(yup, "fuel for the fire" for all you CVA haters). There is a treaded hole in the loading tip that is just big enought to catch the plastic tips on the 338 gr platinums. It is pushing the bullet but catching the plastic in the screw hole. Anyways...
I have two "15" packs of the 338 gr platinums that were givin to me so I will try it tomorrow. I normally use the hollow point PBs but I just have the need to try the dang platinums.

I got a pack of Tc screw in tips and a couple of them fit over the plastic tip, otherwise the tip was coming back out with the rod. The only problem is the tip was just a little bigger than my rod and wouldn't fit back into my Encore. Screwed the tip on the rod and used a disk sander and sanded the tip so it's the same as the rod, works good now.

They shot great. To get started I used some 348 copper HP w/100gr triple 7. Made a few ajustments and had it zeroed about 3 inches high at 50 yrds. Then tried 100 yrds and most shots were dead on the bullseye with some to the right. There was a strong cross-wind left to right that didn't let up much so most shots were anywhere to the right up to 4 inches but dead on a horizonal line. I then shot the Platinums, shot the same at 50 yds and about an inch high at 100 yrds. I am happy. Sometimes I get pissed and very frustrated with my ML shot groups(4 to 5 inch at 100yds) but today was good.

I haven't heard much but I have heard that they(platinums)punch right thru leaving very small entry and exit holes. That made for poor or hard to track blood trails. I hope that is not the case and I am trying to find out. I went out this morning. Jumped a few walking in at 5:30am. Did the tree stand thing till 9:30am but never seen a thing. Will be heading back out around 2:00pm for the evening hunt. Hopefully I can get a good 50yrd or less shot on a doe and find out.

If it's 50 caliber, it won't leave small entry and exit holes. A 50 caliber hole is a big hole. I try never to use expanding MZ bullets and deer die extremely fast from a 50 caliber hole through their body. And the blood trail is almost always more than adequate.
