I wish I could have my old springfield 340B .22LR single shot. For a open sight gun, it was a death wish for squirrels.

For me it's my old Marlin 39a. I shot one that belonged to one of my dad's friends when I was young which had the octagonal barrel and liked it. As soon as I was old enough to buy my own I bought mine and have had it since back before a lot of you were born. I like others but it's always been my favorite.

I agree with Whelen Man,Marlin 39s are hard to beat. If you want to go lower end, Marlin Model 60. For the money u can't beat the accuracy of these little rifles out of the box. Triggers are a little heavy ,but will lighten up with use. Get the stainless model with the Black and Grey Laminated stock. They are sharp.

Rifle or pistol. For a rifle the best has to be an Anschutz. I picked up a Rem 40x that is pretty nice.

This .22 is OK I guess: http://www.cooperfirearms.com/squirrel.html

Their custom classic runs about $2k: http://www.cooperfirearms.com/custom_classic.html

There's a nice used Anschutz at the bottom of this page: http://www.pilkguns.com/usedguns.shtml

Then there's always the "Walmart Special": http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4665569

I have seen a CZ out shoot a Kimber, but it may have been the one behind the trigger. I have a Marlin 880 SQ that will shoot with any .22 I have ever seen. I put an aftermarket trigger in it and it is a tack driver.

The CZ can be had for half the price of the Kimber and will shoot every bit as good, it is my next 22.
