And there's the problem. If they are falling all around you, they are also falling somewhere else as well. Acorns really spread the deer out and allow them to feed without moving much.

I process my own for more than one reason. I dont want to pay the exorbitant expense of proc. and i want mine processed in the exact manner that eliminates fat, membrane and anything else not tasty......I shot 10 last year and made jerky until i was tired of dealing with the labor of it. I could eat it and give it away all year long but it gets tiring and expensive to even do that. I have folks bug me all the time about giving them jerky of cooking some for them. i enjoy that and do it because it brings them pleasure but it sure wears on you also. If you have never taken a backstrap and marinated it in soy sauce for at least 6 hours and then peppered it and garliced it then wrapped a single strand of bacon around it from end to end and place on a grill and cooked from 25 to 35 minutes.......you have not lived..............dang i am gonna go crank one up and thaw one out!!!!!!!!!! freakin awesome!!

Absolutely Radar, over the last several years we have killed so many trying to get them in check, it sometimes seems like work! I too have laid off them considerably, just doesnt excite me like an old buck does! I'll still shoot some but Im trying to let my son do the damage now.

I have passed up 6 does so far this season . I'm still enjoying the hunt for a nice buck . I have plenty of time to fill the freezer later on .
