If your like me and use the glow in the dark markers to easily and quietley get to ure stand, here is a cheap and easy way to do it. Go to your local hardware store and buy a roll of reflective tape. Cut tape into 3" pieces and cut them down the middle into 1/4" strips. The tape will already have a backing on it so you can take the strips to the field, peel backing off and wrap around libs or stick to tree. The roll of tape will last for years and make your walk in the woods look like an airplane landing strip to your hunting location.

Hmmm. Never thought of that. Nice tip.

Sure you can buy cat eyes year after year or you could go ahead and send me the 50 dollars youll spend over a five or ten year period and ill send you a five dollar roll of tape that will last twice as long.

I buy the reflective tape and put on wooden clothespins and clip on branches that lead to my stand. That way, when you come out of the woods, you can remove them and use again at a later date in another place.
Its a cheap way to mark a trail.

Good addition to using the ref. tape Knothead. That was the only draw back of using just tape, once you wrap it around a limb you cant reuse it. Using clothespins is a great way to reuse the markers.

Been doing that for years, but I also use a roll of twistie ties and tape a square of reflective tape to pieces of it to use on limbs, and actually staple squares directly to trees for permanant markers. These last for 3-4 years.

Or you could familiarize yourself with the area and not use anything and leave the woods nice and clean!

Hard to do that there Winchester if your only hunting for a few days on public land. I don't have the luxury of hunting private land or lease. I usually don't hunt 30 yards from the truck or four wheeler either. I have trekked as far as a mile to get away from hunting pressure. I would like to see you hike that far and remember your exact hunting location without a GPS or markers! Or let me guess your one of those who can read the stars, sun and the moon to get to your stand. LOL!!

No Star reading for me, but I promise you, if I find a place in the daylight, decide to hang a stand, I guarantee you I can find it the next time I need to in the dark, guarantee ya!!!!!! So can anybody else with just a little bit of woods skills and the mind to pay attention! I've hunted just a tad on public property, maybe a few hundred days over the years, never ventured far from the truck however, bout 50 minutes is as far as I have ever walked to a stand in TN. But I guess your right, now after doing it for 26 years I need to start marking my trail for everybody to see!!! Order me 2 please!

Winchester your trade mark on the bottom of your reply says it all. Your probably the toughest guy I've ever had a conversation with. if you really want to save you money then put the reflective tape on clothes pins and you can take them back down when you leave that stand.

When day light came I was sitting 20 feet from the stand. Markers would have been nice that day.

Been there, done that.

I actually combine both systems. I like to hunt out of the way places and usually there is an old skidder trail or something that gets me within a few hundred yards, I will then set up a non-reflective natural marker where I need to leave the trail. As I head to my stand I will bend twigs down at eye level so in the morning with a light I can see them. I will mark my stand with two bright eyes so I can see it as I get close. I have taken to this system over the years due to stand theft. Its way to easy for a thief to come in at night and clean stands out of the woods. I will not get stolen from again because I gave them a nice reflective trail to my stand.

I used to make the reflective markers out of the 2" tape , cut in half lengthwise , then cut into 1/2" strips . The end result was hundreds of 1/2"x1" strips that I used tacks to attach to trees .
Now I don't bother ,and use Bright Eyes that I buy on sale at Walmart and the end of the season . \:D
As for keeping others off the trail , I might put a marker on the oppostire side of a road ,along with a few decoy tacks to lead them away from my stand .
I never put any tacks close to a road , and limit the useage in open areas . I also mark my tree with two tacks . I have never had a person find my trees I marked that I know of .

Good idea- when you put the tape on the clothespins do you put it on both sides? That way you they'd be visible from either side, which is a big drawback in using tacks. Did I miss that in the initial suggestion?
Thanks.
