Thanks for sharing, love those stories! I particularly liked headhunters. Those stories are ones for a lifetime!

I'm kinda glad this one is revived...I'm changing my outlook on killing does with fawns...I'd said before that I would let them walk...and I have in the past. But after a season and summer of learning, I have (I hope) figured out some details to small land deer management that have changed my view. I can understand just about everyones view on the subject but it all boils down to hunting and the future of hunting for me. So, for the future I am busting her every chance I get to help keep deer in my hunting area and to up my chances and my son's chances at seeing more bucks. Right now he (6yrs old) is excited about just seeing a deer, but there will come a day when he will be looking to be "macho" and will want and desire takes many seasons doing the right things to get a desirable huting herd in any given area, but it is extremely difficult on small lands (We got 120acres) So, I figure I better get started now...I have been talking with some other hunters who's properties ajoin and am hoping that together we can help our area be a good deer hunting location for years to come...

Camoman270, one of the best things I remember was early one bow season, about 15 years ago, somewhere in there, one of the first momma does I killed with a fawn (a button buck) in tow, I felt bad. The button would not leave. He stayed in and around that one cow pasture the whole season. Almost anytime you went into the pasture he would come out and see what was going on. I was sighting in my 7mmstw one afternoon and took off my hearing protection after shooting a group and heard something moving, scared me silly, it was him about 20 yards behind me watching me. My rifle has a factory muzzlebrake, to say that it is loud is a large understatement. He stayed in and around that pasture til he became huge, last time I saw him he was a 150" class deer and I know one when I see it. We never killed him. He covered a pretty good size area and as far as I know he was never killed. I like to think sometimes too, that bucks are like perverted old men, I cannot even remember how many nice bucks I have seen chasing what had to be yearling does. The third buck from the right (full sneak mount) dressed out at 172 lbs and he was chasing a doe I promise would not have weighed 50 lbs live weight. Luckily for me she came by my tree. That is another reason why I like to shoot the older does.

Glad I found this thread. I actually was worried that I didn't kill the, "just out of it's spots fawn this weekend." Thought maybe it wouldn't be able to make it. I let it walk but brought momma with me.

Now that I feel more comfortable that it will be able to survive, glad I didn't take it.
