Yeah, those little ones are tender. Fry them whole. Those spots aren't tough at all.

That pretty much sums it up for me too. I'll just add that I try to kill bigger does just so I feel like I get my money's worth from the processing fee. I pass on a lot of shot opportunities because of this.

I won't shoot a single doe with fawns. However, if it's a group of does with fawns, I will.

Just my conscience taking over.

Basically ANY momma doe that comes by me gets shot at, whether or not I hit maybe debatable, but I am going to do my best to harvest all mommas. Like BSK, I especially prefer the momma does with button bucks. Been doing this for about 15 years. We went from seeing 1 or 2 little bucks a year on a 200 acre farm, to seeing as few as 10 different bucks to as many as 20 different bucks per year after we started hammering momma does. Many that I knew (including several on this website were all over me for killing does when I started posting how many does I killed each year) but our buck sightings greatly increased (until "civilization caught up with us and all the surrounding land is being developed) with the increase in momma does we shot. Here is a picture (that I have posted several times, no really great bucks, but not bad for middle Tennessee) that will show some of the results of "momma doe killing".

I'll shoot any doe I can as long as she's of decent size (no fawns) and her fawns have lost their spots. I just want to make sure that the fawns can fend for themselves. I know there have been ages posted (like 2 months) where a fawn will be alright (weened) and hook up with a doe group. But around here, with our screwed/skewed herd, we have a fair number of late-born fawns -- and our bow season starts around Sept 10 every year (second Saturday of Sept, I think).

Basically, fawns are weened and able to take care of themselves at 6 weeks of age. But in areas that experience late breeding, it is possible to have fawns being born in August. Those fawns might be very young come opening of bow season. Now by 1st muzzleloader, I wouldn't worry about orphaning fawns.

General rule is, if she has youngens with her she and the young-ones get a free pass.

Now if she comes by alone, and its bow time, well (THUMP) if ya catch my drift! ;\)
