Got a buddy that bought his wife a rifle this weekend. He bought her a .300 winchester short magnum in a Browning A-Bolt. The dude at the store told him that this round will kick about the same or less than a .270 I have shot neither so I have no clue. Is this a true statement?

I had one and it kicked more than my 30-06 but not as much as a .300 Mag. I'll agree with TiminTN that he just wanted a new 300WSM.

A 300 WSM will kick less than a 270
If the 300 WSM is on a 12lb rifle and the .270 is a 6 lb rifle

A good recoil pad and it want mater either way. My 300wsm is not bad with 168gr bullets.

Using Tims figures, I just run question through a balistic program and here is what I got.
Assuming the gun weight is 8lbs.
The 150 at 3250, which would be from the three hundred shows
Recoil velocity 12.6, Recoil energy 19.8, Apparent felt recoil- Vigorous
The 130 at 2950, which would be for the 270 shows
Recoil velocity 10.8, Recoil eneregy 14.4, Apparent felt recoil - Moderate
I used 55 grs of powder to figure these. You would normally use more powder for a 300. Even with these figures the 300 has more recoil.
Felt recoil would be determined based by how well the gun fits you along with how much you think it recoils (This last remark is my own opinion).
