Got a buddy that bought his wife a rifle this weekend.
He bought her a .300 winchester short magnum in a Browning A-Bolt.
The dude at the store told him that this round will kick about the same or less than a .270
I have shot neither so I have no clue.
Is this a true statement?

Pysics is physics.

A 150 grain bullet at 3250 VS.

A 130 grain bullet at 2950

I think you already knew the answer.

He must have wanted a new 300 WSM

I had one and it kicked more than my 30-06 but not as much as a .300 Mag. I'll agree with TiminTN that he just wanted a new 300WSM.

If the 300 WSM is on a 12lb rifle and the .270 is a 6 lb rifle \:\)

Using Tims figures, I just run question through a balistic program and here is what I got.

Assuming the gun weight is 8lbs.

The 150 at 3250, which would be from the three hundred shows

Recoil velocity 12.6, Recoil energy 19.8, Apparent felt recoil-
Vigorous

The 130 at 2950, which would be for the 270 shows

Recoil velocity 10.8, Recoil eneregy 14.4, Apparent felt recoil
- Moderate

I used 55 grs of powder to figure these. You would normally use
more powder for a 300. Even with these figures the 300 has
more recoil.

Felt recoil would be determined based by how well the gun fits you along with how much you think it recoils (This last remark
is my own opinion).

I was given a Browning A-5 (1940's era), that dang thing kicked like a ticked off mule. I installed a mercury recoil surpressor and a Pacmahr recoil pad. What a difference, it still has some recoil to it, but no where near the original kick.

There are ways to tame the savage beasts...................

I probably should have been a little more clear on my last post...................What I meant was tame the gun, not the wife. LOL.
