I don't think all Excals are better than all Horton's by any means. Depends on the model.

I have the Horton 175 and have encountered that a few times, but could get it on a second try. I'm sure you've done this, but just in case, are you pulling hard enough into the click? I shortened up the pull strap to get more leverage behind. I've been at the end of my pull too high it would start to click but not catch because The string was coming into it hard enough. I'm sure this has dawned on you, but ya never know.

I've got a horton with a similar problem. After shooting, sometimes my cocking mechanism will not grab the string on the next pull. I take my cocking aid and use the string to pull through the mechanism. I then take off the safety and pull the trigger, with no string or bolt in place. That usually resets the mechanism so that I can fire again. Not sure whats causing this issue and it doesn't happen every time, but is simply a minor inconvenience.

better get these problems solved guys.. Its a problem and injury waiting to happen.. If there is any problem with the trigger on one of these things, you need to get it fixed ASAP.. Remember the bolt through the foot pics.

I guess I never saw those pics, but I'll say, I never have my crossbow pointed at anything unsafe while it has a bolt on it.

I to have had this to happen a time or two,When it does it on my Horton it is caused by not getting it cocked on the first try.On mine it is a quick and easy fix,,,just take your knife of even a small stick and put it where your string catches and pull forward while squizing your trigger... Hope this works for you....

Horton is a good bow, I'd be surprised if there was anything serious wrong. All bows (shot long enough) are gonna fail some way or another - regardless of brand. The worst thing is the massive vibration shakes stuff loose. Look for setsecrews and etc maybe backed out.

[FWIW] I (my dad actually) had the next model under my Tenpoint and it had a cocking problem - wouldn't lock-up. I lived in GA at the time and my brother set him up. He over drew the string too many times and squashed the string flat (or not round) and that buggered up the action. I know that is a different brand, different model but it is 2 seconds to rule out.

[FWIW-II] Also, the Stealth (my bow) wouldn't set the trigger once and a setscrew that held a baby spring and ball (detent latch) had (as I remember) backed out a tad and it wouldn't catch - snap right by. It is a completely different bow but again, 2 days till opening.

I agree with pyscho.

Horton needs to be involved with their product. it's the way to go.

I have 3 Hortons now for 4 years never had this problem.

Good luck

This crossbow has been shot less than 30 times!! I got the crossbow to them wednesday by UPS. I asked the lady if I could get it back by Saturday and she said "That ain't going to happen unless I'm willing to pay $30+ extra for return overnight shipping." I told her I din't have a credit card and she just replied "sorry, don't look like you'll be hunting opening day this year!!!" I bow hunted for 26 years and I have never missed opening day because of problems with any bow. What should I say now when someone askes me how I like my new $500+ horton crossbow????????????????
