I have a Browning Buckmark 22 pistol that I need help with. These guns have such a great reputation and are supposed to be great some of the best right?

The one I have snaps about half the time. I compared the spent cases with another 22 and it looks like the firing pin on the Browning is not hitting the rim of the shell hard enough.

I took it apart and found the plastic slide bumper on the end of the slide was cracked. Ordered a new one and installed it but that didn't change anything. It fired flawlessly for 20 rounds of so and then started malfunctioning again.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

So, Chad, are you saying that the magazine loads the cartridge into the chamber, but when you pull the trigger, you just hear the click of the firing pin, but no 'bang,' right?

Just asking, because .22 ammo is notorious for misfirings. Have you tried different types of ammo?

The bumper would be a problem if the gun wasn't cycling correctly. I'd check the pin, maybe the springs, but it may still be under warranty.

Also, and this is a long shot, but is it clean? One time a guy had problems with the gun firing, and it turned out that the chamber was so crudded up that it was actually cushioning the cartridge enough that the gun wouldn't fire.

I've heard of people having trouble with certain types of ammo. Mine eats the remington 550 bulk packs without any problems. I would try some some different ammo and see if it helps.

I've tried several types of ammo and it feeds fine. The gun is cleaner than almost any other one I own. I took it apart and cleaned it three times. The firing pin clicks on the shell but appears not to be hitting it had enough.

Someone told me to remove the firing pin and sharpen it but that doesn't sound like the best idea to me.

Thanks for the advice on the website. I found a special way to repair this piece of junk with such a great reputation.

I traded it at the Sparta gun show! ;\)
