The wax is to reduce friction between the string and the rail and extend the life of the strings serving. Some apply it only to the string and serving itself and some apply the wax to the string and the rail. There is also a rail lube that can be used instead of the wax if you prefer. Myself I like to take a piece of leather and firmly work the wax into the serving material. You can feel the leather warm up from rubbing it in most of the time but it seems to soak into the material and thats great because you dont want chunks of wax laying around on your string or rail. I then use a thin layer of rail lube across the top of the rail where the string serving slides across. This method has served me best for a longer period of time without gunking up like wax will on the rail sometimes.
It can be done different ways but just dont over apply. Just keep an eye on it and clean your rail and reapply when necessary.
Sorry I cant help you with a rope cocker. If I had an extra I would give it to you. I think there are three different styles of rope cockers and WalMart sells one version at a fairly reasonable price.

Good info given, i don't wax my serving. I do wax my string real good. I use maxi-lube or bore butter on my rails.Just have to watch what you use fer rail lube. Some stuff has chemicals that will eat up serving and string. Thats not good in the long run.

So I just need to use regular string wax on the string?
I use a synthetic string wax. What kind of wax do you use on the rail. This rail appears to have a little buildup od wax on it.

Yes just regular string wax is fine. Sounds like you just need the string wax. If you wanted to apply the wax to the rail then the wax you apply to the rail is the same wax you apply to the string. There is also the rail lube which can be applied to the rail but is not necessary. After my tube of rail lube runs out I wont be buying antmore because in my opinion all you really need to do is apply (thoroughly rub in) wax to the string serving and it will spread itself across the rail. The rail lube is nice but its not really necessary. Just clean off that old wax build-up and wax that serving with some fresh wax and you should be just fine.
PS..I also like to rub the serving after a few shots to reactivate and spread the wax on the serving and apply more only if you need it and keep that rail clean from wax build-up and foreign materials.
