Hello everyone,
Have a CVA WOLF and a CVA OPTIMA.
I shoot 100 grains of KIK 2F black powder behind a .452 diam hard cast lead 230 Gr. FN bullet and a black sabot. Winchester 209W primer.
Getting good groups with both rifles shooting the same components.
Since I don't have anyway to check the velocity of these bullets, was wondering if anyone can give me an approx: velocity that I am getting at 25 yds and 100 yds ?
The internet is not much help.
Thanks in advance to all replies.
Vearl

I might be able to find it on the nikon spoton app when I get home. Cant remember if it lists blackpower or just subs.

Near as I could come up with, you should be pushing around 2300 at the muzzle, near 2200 at 25 yards, and still almost 1900 FPS at 100 yards. Since the Wolf has a shorter barrel, I'd figure at least 100 FPS less for it.

I doubt you're breaking the 1700 fps mark at the muzzle, probably closer to 1500 fps.

For what it's worth Thompson Center gives 1743fps at the muzzle with a 45 rifle shooting a 240gr 45 maxi using 100grs of 2fg black. I suspect they were using GOEX powder. It's my understanding that KIK is hotter though.

Without a chono we're all just guessing.
