I will try not to be too long winded, but I am both PO'd and ecstatic at the same time.

My family and I have discovered a little honey hole on public property in the area that we can only access by boat, and have had quite a bit of success over the past few years in it, and my brother and I hunted within the past few weeks and saw lots of deer. We were really looking forward to hunting it Thanksgiving morning, but since my dad can't find his way out of a wet paperbag in the dark, he and I went in yesterday afternoon to set up our stands in the daylight and hunt out the afternoon. We split up and I went to the area on an oak ridge where I typically hunt, but I wanted to try a different tree that my brother had used last time he was out just a few yards away. I looked around at what I could see in the distance, set up my climbing stand, and went up the tree. I slipped on my layers and sat down, still scanning the distance. I sat there for approximately .5hr before looking down, and 15' max from the base of my tree is a corn pile and trail cam!!!!!!

I immediately called the TWRA regional office, who transferred me to dispatch, who took my number to pass along to a wildlife officer. I called my dad and told him that we had to leave, as the area was baited. I then climbed back down the tree, madder than a wet hen, and feeling really stupid for not seeing the pile before going up, and before I could even get my stuff packed back up I got a call from Christy, the wildlife officer for this area. I explained the details to her, and she agreed to meet me at a nearby location this morning to get information on the location.

I met she and her partner this morning, gave them GPS coordinates, explained the directions in, and left. She just called me a few minutes ago to tell me that they had caught the guy hunting over the bait!!! She couldn't give me all of the details, but she did explain that the corn was not cleaned up, and if I wanted to hunt there that it would have to be removed for 10 days prior to hunting.

Needless to say I am very upset for losing an afternoon and morning of hunting, and I will not be able to hunt one of my favorite spots for the rut, but I am glad that he got caught. hopefully he will lose quite a bit out of this, as it could have cost me a lot had I hunted there not knowing about the bait. I guess that is just the way that it goes on public land.

Saddest thing about this, but this is in an area that is covered in acorns, so corn did absolutely nothing to increase the jack leg's odds. The place is already covered in deer, and this is a natural travel corridor, as well.

That's about as bright as the idiot that ruined my spot by dumping apples. There isn't an apple tree for miles and I doubt the deer would be searching for any dumped out. \:\) All he brought in was yellow jackets.
