My gamble paid of as well (planted wheat Saturday). We're getting our first solid rain since July 4th.
But I still help back much of my other seed until the soil moisture improves significantly.

We planted 12 out of 20 plots a week ago Tues, and got some rain on the following Wed & Thurs. Wheat, Oats & DER had all germinated by Labor Day. Hopefully, this current system will really kick them into gear! Gonna hold off until the end of the month to do the rest.

Alomst none until today. It has been raining pretty steady out there all morning long, and will continue to do so into the middle of the day. A nice steady rain, which is perfect. The ground is so hard and dry that most of the rain from a thunderstorm downpour would have run right off. This is a slow, soaking rain.

But don't forget ... as Bryan pointed out ... you need the soil moisture to improve. One rain may not do it. Once the seeds germinate, they'll need more.

It's going to take several rains over a week's time or so to recharge soil moisture. Looks like that's a possibility between now and next Wednesday.

I went out and disked up the plots with intentions of planting ,but after thinking about it I decided to wait till after the rain to plant . Its been cloudy here for 2 days now two maybe three 20 min showers and it is still dry as a powdered fart so I will wait a little longer before i plant.
