My chain driven Sears Garage Door Opener has failed me for the last time (it's probably 15+ years old though). I'm going to buy a new unit today at Sears; I guess I'm going to go with a belt driven unit. I've never installed one before. Should this be pretty simple since I'm basically dropping and swapping the old 1/2HP Sears Garage Door Opener for a much newer 1/2HP Sears Garage Door Opener? If not, then I'd be willing to pay somebody to install it for me. I don't have a lot of time right now to fool with it so if it ain't going to be real simple I thought I'd offer someone a gig.

The same thing happened to me a few months ago and I gladly paid Lowe's $100 to install mine—and was more than happy to do it, because some things are just not worth the effort and time on a personal level! I've installed several of them over the years and no matter how many times I do it, it never gets easier....the things are just a pain. By the way....the belt driven openers are so much better and quieter.

Last time I had garage door work done the spring had exploded and sent shrapnel all over the garage.

I had a local company come in and fix it. Because of that experience, I will probably never climb on a ladder and replace my opener again.

A decent company will have installers who actually know every trick to getting your garage door to open and close like a dream. Mine has never worked better before or since.

Go with a pro. As easy as they are, try it and see what your results are.
