I usually make sure the chairs in my shoothouse are hit with some WD-40 so they don't squeak during a sit. Do you think it would bother deer if you spray it on the chairs at the beginning of the hunt?

Normally I have them sprayed down well in advance so the smell is pretty much gone, but this year I won't be able to spray them until the day I start hunting.

I use Ultra Lube 4X that can be found at most Home Depots. If it has a smell, it is faint enough that I can't smell. It is not petroleum based and the can says odor free.

if it is a foreign smell they have never associated with danger, they are just as likely to investigate as to spook.

If the deer smell oil on your climber, then they also smell you, and which smell do you think is more dangerous to a deer?

hey i pee from my stand....just let it rain, and deer still walk by. Just kidding about that, but i have peed beside my stand just to see what the effect would be. To my surprise deer still came by. I think you will be ok spraying before a hunt. Oh and i have pooped by my stand (couldn't hold it any more) and deer walk by the stand after i got back in it they paid no mind to the smell. I have a feeling that if a deer can't associate a smell with danger then they aren't going to care. Like they smell a human and see a human. From then on out they know that smell to be danger a human is near or been there.

I hunted a large field once with a friend and watch him peeing from his stand then he swears that a doe come walking by 20 mins later and ate the grass he just pee on. And with the smell of foreign stuff, I don't think it will bother deer. Think about it, if every time a deer smells something different then you would see deer running around all the time. I think it just makes them a Little more alert to there surroundings

side note - in my experience PB Blaster is much more effective (and longer lasting) than WD-40 ever was. It's got a stench that will knock u down but after it goes away, the squeaks will not come back...at least not for a very long time.
