My Dad hunts with a crossbow and everyone in our group uses compounds. Seven guys in our group. My Dad bought me a crossbow, I think because he didnt want to be the only one in the group shooting a crossbow. I hunted with it, killed a deer, and loved it. I had killed alot of deer with a compound, but I prefer a crossbow. Whoever says they are boat anchors, probably never picked up a boat anchor. I've got a new Barnett and it weigs 6lbs. shoots 345 fps, and I can drive nails with it. I have alot of success ground hunting with a crossbow. Results speak for themselves, I have killed several deer with my crossbow and have yet to loose one. 6 out of 7 guys in my group now have crossbows.

I don't have a crossbow and I don't see myself buying one anytime soon. My friend has one and I sighted it in for him. I like them just fine, looks like a lot of fun. I am just curious if any of you crossed over to the dark side (crossbow) and then, for whatever reason, went back to using a regular bow. I never really started with a regular bow to start with. At least not enought to be good enough to kill a deer with. I have read a few times where some have tried the crossbow and they just didnt like it and when back to the way they use to shoot.

Why's a crossbow got to be considered the dark side??
OK, I'll say it.. bow snobs... some folks like to run xbowers down as if what archery tackle you shoot effects them somehow. You can get the same size groups with much less effort using a crossbow than you can a vertical bow. Some "trad bowers" feel similarly about compounds.
I like crossbows for shooting in the back yard but for hunting (I feel) I loose much more than I ever gained - they are just too cumbersome and you can't recycle fast enough in a treestand.
You should shoot what you like and ignore everyone else.
