The urge to plow took over on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I plowed
every logging road and clear spot I could find. I rolled a measuring wheel over the logging road and found that I had plowed 2700 feet with a little Swisher Tru-plow and a 4 wheeler. My lungs may be full of dust but my heart is full of hope. \:D

Hopefully, some rain will come along so I can plant soon.

I spent the last four days plowing. - In 20 years of putting in food plots this is the first year I haven't seeded them on Labor Day. There was NO ground moisture and these were fields that have been plowed every year. I did turn in my lime and fertalizer and the plots are disked. Now I am going to wait for a good rain before throwing out some seed and drag the plots.

On Friday or Saturday I heard Paul Barys say that unless we had a major tropical depression or a hurricane push up through the Gulf we would have an extremely dry fall.

If your plow was 4 feet wide, then you plowed up a total of about 1/4 acre.
About 44,100 square feet in an acre . . . .
2700 x 4 = 10,800 square feet.

Actually, with multiple passes it was more like 10 feet wide. Plus
the 80 X 30 plot,65 X 30 plot and oh yeah the 20X20 plot. I guess I plowed right at 3/4 acre.

In one of my towers stands I will be able to see 3 seperate food plots when the leaves are gone.

There are 43,560 square feet in an acre.

I put down 500 lbs of wheat. If we get rain and it makes it, great, and then I'll add more stuff to the plots later. If it doesn't make it, well I'm not out that much. Wheat seed is relatively cheap.

here are some quick figures

1 acre = 4,840 square yards ~ examples; an area 20 yards by 242 yards or 40 yards by 121 yards
1/2 acre = 2,420 sq. yds. ~ examples; an area 20 yds. by 121 yds. or 40 yds. by 60 1/2 yds.
1/4 acre = 1,210 sq. yds. ~ examples; an area 20 yds. by 60 1/2 yds. or 40 yds. by 30 1/4 yds.
1/8 acre = 605 sq. yds. ~ examples; an area 20 yds. by 30 1/4 yds. or 10 yds. by 60 1/2 yds.
1/16 acre = 302 1/2 sq. yds. ~ examples; an area 10 yds. by 30 1/4 yds. or 5 yds. by 60 1/2 yds.

Yessir.

But being better at quickly assessing "yardage",
I just normally think in terms of an acre being approximately 70 yards x 70 yards, which worked out to 44,100 sq. ft.

Using this "yardage" method, I can quickly pace the length and width of a plot to determine its approximate acreage. And I've quickly determed that what most people call a half-acre plot commonly turns out to be closer to a 1/4-acre plot (35 yards x 35 yards).

You are "right on", Tenbears.
Or, 34.79 yds x 34.79 yds.
I just round my numbers up (35 x 35 yds) for convenience and to help insure the plots I pace off are at least as large as I'm estimating.

the plann is to suck the deer out of the woods ( which I don't have permission to hunt ) It has worked for the last few years .
we will see how it works this year .

With the limited food sources available this year, "drawing" deer with food should work extremely well.

Well in the past where I hunt is a field that drops off into some bottoms . there is a terris that snakes along about 100 to 300 yds all the length of our property .I have several stands and blinds on this terris ,in the past I just planted a small area around or near each stand ,I would hunt one stand glass down a 1/2 mile away and see deer in front of other stands . So the last few years I planted a stripp that connected the two plots of 1/2 Acre or so . Well the doe would hit the plot and walk and eat right past my stands no matter which stand I hunted ,so this year I plann on taking it a step further and just planting a belt of weat ,oats and winter peas past all the stands on the terris .It should work fine . The largest deer I have ever killed I killed because I got the doe used to eating and traveling the weat trail and come rut time I was in my stand and the buck came in at 4:00 in the afternoon following a doe on her daily routine.Never never see big bucks down there till the rut .but see way more small bucks than does . opening day of mz last year I hunted there morning and evening saw 8 small bucks and three doe .And would say thats about average sighting for that area . with such a huge Area to glass I always see a deer some where down there. Probably looking over 150 to 200 acres at one time in one spot.
