how do you look for a tree to climb when you get an afternoon (or morning) off without knowing where to go? Say a new piece of public land or an area of your hunting property you've never scouted. I have had luck in the afternoons looking for a good creek crossing next to a field that deer might feed in. I find a good trail with fresh tracks crossing the creek, and often it's a great evening spot to catch them coming out to feed at night. Such areas are easy to locate because creeks stand out among the terrain and it's not hard to walk a creek looking for the best crossing trail. What is your go-to sign when looking for a last minute setup?
