What do you all think about drinking coffee in your tree stand? Smell too strong?

If people can smoke in the stand and kill deer then coffee will be fine. I don't do either, just because i don't smoke or drink coffee. But if i wanted to take a cup of coffee in with me then i'm dang sure doing it. Just play the wind.

I would worry more about the movement than the smell. If they smell the coffee, then they can probably smell you. JMO though....

If i tried to bring coffee to the stand, I would have it spilt all over the place before daylight.

If your playing the wind the movement is whats going to get you before the smell. You could rig up a straw. Maybe get one of those kids silly straws thats long and straighten it out?

I did smoke, and killed many deer while smoking, but I would light a smoke and leave it in my mouth till it was gone to keep my movement to a minimum.

Over the years I've killed quite a few deer with a lit cigarette in my hands. I also take a snack and drink with me on my hunt. Don't get me wrong because smell plays a huge difference in the outcome of your hunt but if you're hunting with the wind 9 times out of 10 it's going to be movement that gives you away. Pay attention to that and you can almost get away with whatever you're doing.

Just depends on how you hunt.. And what your after..
I wouldn't, but I'm only after 3+ yr old bucks, at least the first couple hunts. And I'll be hunting right quarters, knowing it's likely deer will approach down wind..

If I were just out there to see what I see and arrow a deer, I'd probably do it.. Also if you are a guy that hunts strictly by the wind, and give up a direction..
U are probably increasing the amount of foreign odor 10 fold..

Just depends...

I killed my first deer last year. I did nothing right - got there well after sunrise, no camo, no scent blocker, didn't even shower that morning, coffee in-hand, forgot half my tree stand so I had to sit about 3 feet off the ground, spilled my coffee, was crackin' sunflower seeds and not making much effort to be quiet while setting up.

About 30 minutes later, that ol' 7-point come walkin' up and by the time he saw me, I'd already had my gun up.

Fired the shot, he fell - paced it off to 20 yards.

I may have had the wind in my direction, I don't remember but I suspect if he'd smelled the coffee, he might not have come up that far - but who knows, you never can tell what they're gonna do.

I watched a video on youtube last week where a guy was dropping peanuts on a doe who was eating them at the bottom of his tree. He even dropped them directly on her head and she never once looked up - just kept eating them. ;\)

In 35 years of whitetail hunting and maybe around a hundred or so deer. They have all been killed within minutes of me drinking coffee on the ground or in the stand. I never leave home without my thermos full of joe. I think it's a non-issue. Some will disagree, but I think it arouses curiosity in some animals since it's an organic smell. I know for sure that bears will come in to check it.
